1998-1999

The GPSC added the Graduate and Professional Student Research Conference to our roster of events. the most significant accomplishment was getting increased recognition through having representatives sit on many high-level university committees, such as Shared Governance. Another extremely important accomplishment: our Student Showcase Phoenix may have saved the University millions of dollars of cuts due to budget negotiations going on at the State Capitol, where we were displaying our research. Legislators had to pass through a hall between their offices and the council chambers, and we were set up in the hall, with no way around us. Clearly, the UA graduate student research impressed the legislators; instead of six million dollars in cuts, there were none.
